SOAP, in collaboration with Studio Littlejohn, produced a documentary for Bonnefanten Museum, exploring Shattered Ghost Stories (1993) by Dutch artist and feminist Lydia Schouten. After an international exhibition it disappeared for 30 years, and we followed it's resurrection. As a pioneer in performance, video, and installation art, Schouten’s work challenges perceptions of identity, loneliness, and violence. This film delves into the haunting and enigmatic nature of her piece, inviting viewers to interpret its floating figures—are they asleep, alive, or lost in between? Exhibited for a year as part of A Room of One’s Own, the documentary highlighted Schouten’s impact within a male-dominated art world, celebrating her legacy alongside other groundbreaking female artists.
